ACHATES IN BLUE autor M. Błaszkowska
Agate, which is the balancing element of the composition, is a special specimen of a semi-precious mineral. Its name comes from the ACHATES river (today's Dirillo) in southern Sicily, Italy, hence the aquaristic character. It shares a jewelery history with amber, since antiquity both stones were jewels in amulets, imperial seals, Greek and Roman signets, and adorned altars and embellished royal furniture. The work is an expression of longing for the timeless value of space and object. These two raw materials framed in gilded Italian wooden frames, as in the old days, coexist on one surface.
